Madeleine Kear
Born in Adelaide Australia Madeleine travelled to London aged 16 to train at the Royal Ballet School. After a short time working with both Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and the Australian Ballet as a professional ballerina she gave up dancing to study English literature at The University of Melbourne. Having always been interested in Art and Craft and Design she took up tapestry as a hobby in France, experimenting with her own designs which were often inspired by modernist art. This hobby soon became a passion and now she hopes to share her love for tapestry with others: “I definitely wouldn’t be as grounded and full-filled if I didn’t have tapestry in my life. I find the colour and texture of wool combined with the rhythm of stitching an incredibly healing and meditative activity. I wish many more people could discover just how soothing and comforting it is.”
